S. xanthocarpum (Kantakari)

Results from various studies reveals that various extract of S. xanthocarpum were quite effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus which is considered as a serious human pathogen causing infections in wounds and eczema. Possible reasons for this antibacterial activity of S. xanthocarpum are presence of alkaloids, phenolics and flavonoids. The faster wound contraction rate from S. xanthocarpum treatment may be due to antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antiseptic properties of the extract and by simulation of interleukin-8, an inflammatory alpha-cytokins that affect the function and recruitment of various inflammatory cells, fibroblasts and keratinocytes.
