Pharmacology

Boswellia serrata:

Boswellia has been known to possess anti-inflammatory abilities and clinically proven in various inflammatory conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, and tendonitis. Studies conducted on animal models prove that these boswellic acids inhibit the synthesis of pro-inflammatory enzymes like 5-Lipoxygenase. 3-O-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellinic acid (AKBA) is, in fact, the most potent inhibitor of 5-Lipoxygenase, responsible to trigger a cascade of responses in humans.

Withania somnifera:

Both the ancient Ayurvedic manuscripts and modern scientific research consider it the best remedy for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis. In a study conducted on anti-arthritis activity of Ashwagandha, it was observed that its analgesic action is due to the involvement of serotonin and found its superior efficacy than phenylbutazone in controlling inflammation in mouse models. Patients of rheumatoid arthritis receiving Ashwagandha root powder showed excellent response. Their pain and swelling completely disappeared.

Zingiber officinale:

Ginger showed anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting not only prostaglandin but also leukotriene biosynthesis. Pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-12, TNF-α, and IL-1β) and pro-inflammatory chemokines release was significantly inhibited in LPS-induced macrophages by its constituents.

Curcuma longa:

C. longa (Turmeric) and its derivatives especially curcumininoids have anti-inflammatory activities. Unlike ginger, turmeric and curcumin do not modulate COX-1 activity, but modify NF-κB signaling, pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin production and phospholipase A2, COX-2, and 5-LOX activities. Curcumin also prevents loss of cartilage. By preserving the joint tissue, it helps in less degradation of bone and connective tissue in the joints. Curcumin is also a therapeutic agent to prevent spreading of inflammation. It strengthens body’s immune system, by regulating your resistance responses. It also activates the immune system (cells) in the body.
