Pharmacology

Cissus quadrangularis

The extract of C. quadrangularis possess analgesic, anti-inflammatory and venotonic effects associated with varicose vein, haemorrhoids, anti-inflammatory activity is due to flavonoids especially luteolin and by β-sitosterol. β-sitosterol has ability to reduce the enzymes MPO indicating a reduction of neutrophils influx in the inflamed tissue. The venotonic effect of C. quadrangularis also postulated to be due to the effect of flavonoids present in the extract which act in the same way as that of diosmin and hesperidin.

Mimosa pudica

According to the Ayurveda and Unani system of medicine, root is resolvent, alternative, useful in diseases arising from blood impurities and bile, piles, varicose vein etc. M. pudica’s astringent and styptic actions are useful in bleeding piles and various venous disorders.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E contributes to positive connective tissue growth and studies have shown that prolonged vitamin E deficiency has been linked to occurrence of varicose veins. Vitamin E is also important for varicose veins because it helps to improve overall circulation and promotes healthy blood flow. Studies have shown that vitamin E is needed to keep platelets from sticking together and adhering to the side of blood vessel walls.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A helps to speed varicose ulcer healing, is found in cantaloupe, carrots, pumpkins etc. Vitamin A is important to cell production and growth. Vitamin A also stimulates fibroblasts—the cells responsible for developing tissue that keeps skin firm and healthy—in the deep layers of the skin.
